Big Easy Moments

Midnight horns blow
so clear, so sweet,
the notes so true
they make one weep.

Bourbon street waiting,
overflowing with passion,
filled with wild desire,
filled with sultry,
sweltering body heat.

Genteel madams,
ladies scantily attired.
Dainty fingers beckon,
painted, pouting lips,
seductive smiles
promise forbidden love.

Moonbeams ripple through
French Quarter windows.
Mardi Gras moments
linger long after
debauchery subsides.

The Big Easy rests,
but does not succumb to sleep.

Tawdry hangovers cling
to body, mind and soul.
Even after darkness fades,
even after a new day breaks
and is born into fullness.

Still not quite whole,
one can only wait
until once more
midnight horns blow
so clear, so sweet,
the notes so true
they make one weep.
